Hook A Duck

While growing up in Oklahoma and living near a lake, I had the pleasure of fishing and catching many things. Yes, it is true. I actually caught a duck. It was a pretty duck. One of the white ones, with a yellow/orange bill and webbed feet.

I was fishing with bread rolled up on a hook and a bobber. Nothing was biting so I started zoning out. (La La Land). Totally unaware of the pretty white duck swimming near my bobber and bait.

It didn't take the duck long to see my bread. I was suddenly awaken to the sound of a duck quacking and the line on my fishing reel screaming as the duck took flight.

I was 8 years old and had no idea what to do. I just hooked a duck and this duck was stripping my line. I thought.... Do I set the hook? Do I cut the line? How do you clean a duck? And, What do they taste like? I decided to site there and try to bring him in.

Imagine the scene. Here is an 8 year old kid who's pole is bending like crazy and the bait and catch (duck) are about 100 feet in the air trying to fly south for the winter. Well, the duck put up a great flight and eventually stripped all the line off the reel and it flew away.

Below are some of the other items I have actually caught while fishing.
