Milk That Cow!!!

Pokey (my dad) and I went to the North Carolina State Fair and the North Carolina State VS Duke University football game.

This was an awesome weekend! One of the best I have ever had. I flew in on Friday and my folks actually remembered to pick me up at the airport. Let me explain. Normally, when your kid would fly into town, you would remember to pick them up... A few Thanksgivings ago, they forgot and left me at RDU for 4 hours while they delivered raisin bread to elderly people. At least they were not goofing off, but that is another story.... - I hope it is not a sign of things to come... Hahahaha Anyway, on with the story...

Pokey has a fear of crowds so he wants to get to the Fair and game really early... The Fair opens at 8a and the game is a high noon. We leave the house at 715am!!!! Pull into the Fair parking lot at 730am... We are the only car in the whole parking lot!!!! The fair doesn't open for 30 minutes so we sit in the car and read the newspaper.

It is now 8am, we venture into the fair. No lines!!! We had a sausage biscuit and sat at the table and laughed. We always have a great time....

9am, We are on the move. We went to the cattle show. These things (Cows) are very big. We started walking through the building, looking at and petting the cows. Some are being prepped for the show. They are big, but very cute. They would even moooooo!!!

About 10 feet away, I noticed one of the cow tails started rising. Thank goodness we stepped back. I have seen many things in my life, but let's just say, they must eat a lot of hay. Wow!!!!!! We must have been on their feeding cycle because every cow we passed, saluted us with their tails and let it fly.

We are just about to leave the building (Just like Elvis) hahahaha... and saw a line of people and wondered what they were doing. After we saw why the line was there, we joined them. Pokey and I milked a cow!!!! This was an interesting experience. I felt like I should at least get to know the cow a little better before I started milking her. We did so well, they gave us each a little carton of milk. :) Off to the chickens!

We walked out of the back of the COW Building and heard the chickens. I never knew there were so many different kinds and colors of chickens. They were going Cock-A-Doodle-Do... Some were very small and some were huge!! Very interesting! Souuuuuuuu Pigs!!!!!

Snort Snort.. Yup, pig time!! In the back was a section where you could pet and view pigs. Pigs are dirty, disgusting filthy animals that taste very good. They snorted, squilled etc. Very cool!!! We pet some of them too. Oops, almost forgot about the duck and chicken...

Sorry about that,,, While we were with the chickens, there was a section in the back of the building where you could hold and pet little baby ducks and chickens. My word those little guys are soooo cute. I wanted to take one home with me, but Pokey said (and I agreed) that they really wouldn't fit too well between two slices of bread.. hahahahahaha... just kidding...

Bunny Farm! Sounds like a place you wouldn't want to go to with your dad, but it was neat. Like the chickens, some bunnies were small, some as big as dogs, some had huge ears, etc. We tried to find Bugs Bunny, but couldn't find him.

Off to the Game!!! Wolf Pack versus the Blue Devils!!! There are many things in life that you will remember, but few as special as going to a college football game with your dad. We called plays, gave high fives, cheered and bonded. The funniest thing happened during the first half. These two birds were flying around, swooping, diving at the crowd and minding their own business. Next thing you know, a hawk swoops down and almost crushes one of the birds. They take off and all three fly out of the stadium. It was like watching Wild Kingdom.

After the game, we hung out in the football stadium and walked down to the field. We continued to walk on to the field and ended up on the 50 yard line on the big NCS in the middle of the field. It was an awesome feeling. Dad even bent down and touched the grass. He had a slight problem getting back up though. hahahaha.

Back to the Fair. It is about 4pm. we are on our way back to the Fair. 1st stop... The Ruby Mine.. We each got a bag of dirt, a sifter and a spot near the running water. We found many treasures in our little bags of dirt. It was fun.

Well, we grabbed a bite to eat and headed home. We had a great time!
