I Am The Alamo
Latest trip was to San Antonio. If you have ever flown with me, you know I love getting to the airport very early.
Ok, it is 11am and my flight is at 1245p. Almost 2 hours early, ready to eat some lunch. Anyway, I walk into the terminal and used the restroom. I asked the Mexican guy that was cleaning the restroom where the food court is. He says (in English), "I don't speak English". He just spoke English to me.... I sat there for a few seconds and all my hi-school Spanish starts surfacing. It has been 13+ years since I have taken a Spanish Class. I looked at the guy and said "Donde esta McDonalds"? He smiled and started talking Spanish to me. Had no clue what he was saying, but we were bonding. He pointed the direction while he was talking, I said "gracias" and went on my way.
McDonald's was good. No matter where you go. there are always the "Golden Arches" and the food always tastes the same. When my folks and I went to France 5 years ago, we ate at Mickey D's and it was like being home. I was going to do a joke about eating true French Fries, but thought better....
On to the flight. I got my boarding pass .... I was in the middle seat. I am a BIG GUY and always hate this part. I was almost the last person to board. Everyone I pass that has an open seat beside them looks at me with terror and I hear sighs of relief when I walk by their seat... While walking down the aisle (of the airplane), I established eye contact with the people I am sitting between. The lady in the window seat looked like she wanted to slam her head against the wall and the guy in the aisle's eyes rolled back into his head. They were very nice people, especially the older lady.
We arrived in San Antonio and are getting ready to get off the plane. Next time you get on a plane and land, do this... Look at the people behind you. They all have the "I am going to go postal (aka High School - heard that from a school teacher) if I don't get off this plane right now" look. Kind of funny....
