Don E. (my fishing buddy), his dad and I decided to "float down the river". The boat we used was a 13 foot jon boat.
To float down a river, you need to use 2 cars. One for the drop off point and the one with the trailer for the pickup.
I am driving a big blue Buick Lesabre and Don E and his dad are in the car pulling the boat. We missed our drop off point and in the process of turning around on the dirt, my right front car wheel goes into a 2 foot wide by 3 foot deep hole. I'M STUCK! Can't move. Don E and his dad get out of the car and laugh at me as I am spinning my wheels to get out. Within a few minutes a guy in a pickup comes by, puts a chain on the back of the car and pulls me free. Very Lucky!
Ok, the cars are set, the boats in the water and we are on our way down the river. I am in the front, Don E in the middle and his dad working the trolling motor in the back.
We are floating down the river, casting in every direction. I was the first to catch something. I caught a maple tree. We had to row back up stream to get my beetle spin out of the tree. Don E had the next catch, a good sized large mouth bass. We put him on the stringer and kept fishing. His dad caught some blue gills.
We came to an open spot of the river and decided to turn the motor on and cruise for a few hundred yards.
While we were "cruising" in the boat, we kept hearing a "thud" noise. We had left the stringer in the water and as we were cruising, the fish were slamming against our aluminum hull. We actually lost 2 or 3 fish that way.
We slowed down and continued fishing. We came to a spot where a tree had fallen across a narrow part of the river. Don E's dad said, "We all better duck". I ducked, Don E ducked, but for some reason, his dad didn't. I felt the boat stop, looked to the back of the boat and saw Don E's dad. Arms were laid across the top of the tree and feet barely in the boat. Next thing I heard was his dad falling into the water. Don e and I could not stop laughing. His dad came out soaking wet. We angled the boat to the shore and he got back in.
We didn't get to do a whole lot of fishing after that point, but it was a truly memorable fishing trip.
Thank You Mr. B!
