Fishing is the best past-time. I was 10 years old and fishing with my buddy Ricky and my sister Mel in Oklahoma. Ricky and I had been friends for years and loved to go to the lake and catch catfish or anything that would bite. For some reason, Mel decided to join us.
Ricky and I caught 3 or 4 catfish each and Mel had not had a bite. Off in the distance, my folks are coming towards us. Mel brings her line in to rebait it. Ricky and I go running to see my folks and show them our prize catches on the stringer. Ricky tripped on Mel's line and sent the hook through her finger. Does that slow Ricky or I down? No!!!
We continue to run and show my folks our BIG CATCH and explain how we had to fight them in. Meanwhile, my sister is about 50 yards away and starts screaming.
My dad asked me what was wrong, "Oh, Mel has a fish hook in her finger." They ran over and couldn't get the hook out and ended up taking her to the emergency room and cutting the barb and pushing the rest of the hook through. That was the last time I ever saw my sister fish.
